Our History
Democracy for Westchester is an independent grassroots based organization that seeks to elect socially progressive and fiscally responsible candidates to local, state and national offices. We are a local coalition group of Democracy for America (DFA).
During the 2004 Presidential election cycle, DFW grassroots volunteers’ registered new voters, did phone banking and participated in a GOTV (get out the vote) effort on both the local and national level. In 2005, we worked on Jeff Zuckerman’s mayoral campaign and helped Tony Castro in his bid for Westchester County District Attorney.
Our Core Principles
First, we are committed to a strong, sustained, active grassroots involvement in the democratic process at the local, county, state and national levels.
Second, we are committed to electing candidates who truthfully speak about their policy choices and stand up for what they believe.
Third, we are committed to fighting for policies and legislation that promote the well-being of all individuals in such diverse areas as; fiscal responsibility, health care, equal rights under the law, environmental protection, education, and a national security policy that makes America stronger by advancing modern values while protecting and safeguarding the rights of those individuals.
Our Goals
1. Recruit and encourage progressive candidates from Westchester County to run for office at every level. We will help them find the resources to campaign successfully with small donations from grassroots supporters in order to break the stranglehold special interests have on the political process.
2. Raise funds for a progressive congressional candidate from Westchester County whose election will be key to truth and honesty in the House of Representatives.
3. Develop strategic partnerships with other progressive organizations, and build political relationships to help us achieve the above goals.
4. Harness the power of the Internet to continue to build our New York grassroots communication network.
