Blackwater, Mercenaries and Democrats

One has to wonder and be in awe when a democratic proposal gets 389 votes and the support of the company that is targeted to regulate.

What is wrong with the picture, specially, when the law by Democratic congressman David Price is from the home estate of Blackwater.

The passed legislation is :

The MEJA Expansion and Enforcement Act (H.R. 2740)

When you read the fine print, and intrepet the consequences of the law, it boils down to: the mercenaries will be officially cuddle before prosecution, thus officially making mercenaries a tool for the pentagon.

The rules of this law are so complex to form a formal prosecution that it is a de facto formal authorization to use mercenaries in secret in security and paramilitary off the law operations.

One has to wonder why are democrats becoming so similar to republicans when it matters the most.

We thought we had enough of "shock and awe" but we are been welcome to the world of Blackwater, Mercenaries and Democrats.

The present spin in the law is that the FBI will investigate and ensure that the U.S. government has the legal authority to prosecute crimes committed by U.S. contractor personnel working in war zones.

When you read the full text, it isn't so. Not becuase it says it should be done but becuase thanks to the magic of money, most of the bill will not be funded. If you remember Enron, MCI, the FDA, FCC or the old hated IRS, the simplest way to weaken action and the application of the law is to deny funding, thus denying enforcement, here it is obvious the purpose will be nul law enforcement.

That is part one of the bill. Second, it leaves to the discretion of the Attorney General any action. Can you imaging Alberto Gonzalez or for that matter any other Attorney General prosecuting his boss contractors who might be working in the kidnapping or who knows what of a President as it happen in Haiti under Bill Clinton or Chile, or Salvador, Guatemala, and other of the 167 war like actions of the past twenty years.

One of the major part of the bill reads:

"Responsibilities of Theater Investigative Unit -The Theater Investigative Unit established for a theater of operations shall:

(1) investigate reports that raise reasonable suspicion of criminal misconduct by contract personnel;
(2) investigate reports of fatalities resulting from the use of force by contract personnel; and
(3) upon conclusion of an investigation of alleged criminal misconduct, refer the case to the Attorney General of the United States for further action, as appropriate in the discretion of the Attorney General.
Bottom line is that been a "for all democrat" does not guaratee freedom nor Democracy.
